Marcus Garvey: Look for Me in the Whirlwind
Director Stanley Nelson, 90 Min., USA
From award-winning Director/Producer Stanley Nelson. The film chronicles the dramatic rise and fall of Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican-born activist who immigrated to the United States and built the largest mass black nationalist movement in world history. Visionary yet enigmatic, brilliant yet manipulative, he is one of the most controversial figures in American history. In the month of his birthday and in his namesake park, this biographical documentary will uncover the story of how Garvey inspired – and frustrated – millions of African Americans between 1916 and 1921, including a wealth of archival footage, photographs, writings of the era, and interviews of descendants of men and women who aligned themselves with Garvey’s movement.
